It is almost impossible to get a short .com domain name unless you are willing to pay a premium for one. In 2006 someone paid $14 million for the name sex.com. It was also reported that beer.com was sold for $7 million and wine.com for $3 million. Slim chance you have a few million dollars �sitting around� to buy an established domain name so let�s look at another option.

Today longer domain names are more acceptable. This opens the door to creative strategies in domain name creation. The following examples illustrate this point.

After the domain name cars.com was taken, someone who missed out on that name created carsdirect.com. After health.com became unavailable
